Rugby Canada Fiscal 2017 Annual General Meeting

Delegates from the Canadian Rugby Community will be touching down in Ontario this week for the Fiscal 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held at the Marriot Hotel in downtown Toronto.

The weekend provides a great opportunity for the leaders of the provincial unions across the country to interact and discuss key items with Rugby Canada and its Board of Directors. The meetings also provide a chance for those in attendance to review the previous year’s business, discuss where Rugby Canada currently stands and what it is striving for in the next fiscal year.

Business sessions will kick off on Thursday afternoon and will run until Saturday morning, when the official AGM proceedings commence.

While the Business Sessions are closed to the public, the formal AGM on Saturday at 10am is open for all to attend.

This year, Rugby Canada’s Leadership group will be presenting the State of the Union Address LIVE on Facebook with Chairman of the Board, Tim Powers and CEO Allen Vansen reflecting on 2017 and providing insight on the future of rugby in Canada. Earlier in the day they will also be taking over Rugby Canada’s Twitter Account for a Q & A to answer questions from the community.

Day 2 Recap:
(Toronto, Ontario) Day two of Rugby Canada's 2017 Annual General Meeting kicked off at 9:00am with a Provincial Union Feedback Session, in which Provinces provided outcomes to topics discussed at the Provincial Union Delegates meeting.

This was followed by Canada's Men's Rugby Head Coach, Kingsley Jones discussing the current and future plans of the National Senior Men's Fifteens program and the road leading to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

After a fifteen minute Q&A session with the members, the future of Canadian rugby was discussed in a Strategic Planning Session lead by CEO, Allen Vansen and Chairman of the Board, Tim Powers. They were joined by Kathy Henderson, Vice-Chair of the Board and Doug Campbell, the Board Director.

Following the Strategic Planning session, Tom Jones, World Rugby Regional General Manager for the Americas presented the outlook of the sport globally and in the Americas. Joining Jones from Rugby Americas North was Jennifer Gray who followed up with a presentation, which dove deeper into the Americas outlook for the future.

As part of Rugby Canada’s commitment to communicating with membership, Tim Powers (Chairman) and Allen Vansen (Chief Executive Officer) participated in a Twitter takeover where they fielded questions from Rugby Canada membership for one hour.

The State of the Union Address was broadcasted on Facebook Live and presented by Tim Powers and Allen Vansen, marking the second time that Rugby Canada has used Facebook Live to broadcast a presentation at an Annual General Meeting. If you missed the broadcast, go to www.facebook.com/RugbyCanada to view the video.

Other presentations throughout the day included an Awareness Workshop with Stephanie Sapienza, a PlaySmart and Rowans Law presentation by Paul Hunter, Gordon Stringer and Stephanie Cowle, and a National 7’s Talent Identification & Program update by Meaghan Howat.

The AGM continues on Saturday with a Rookie Rugby Delivery Workshop presented by Dustin Hopkins.
