2018 Canadian Rugby Championship Day 3 Recap

Logan Martin-Feek
Rugby 15s Senior Women, Rugby 15s U20 Women, Rugby 15s U19 Men

We have finished up the third day of competition here in Saskatchewan, bringing us to the halfway mark in the tournament. Day three was packed with action across all three divisions.

The first games of the day featured Alberta taking on Quebec in the U19 men’s division and Quebec’s U20 women’s team against Ontario. In the U19 matchup Quebec came away with the win against the strong Alberta side with a score of 24-21. Alberta now sit with a record of 0-2 while Quebec are now undefeated through their first two games. In the U20 women’s matchup, the neighboring provinces were both taking part in their second game of the tournament, with the Ontario ladies edging Quebec by a score of 10-7 to claim their second win of the tournament. Canada U20 women’s coach, Jack Hanratty has been impressed by the athleticism from the five separate provincial programs, in which he said "It’s been great to finally see 5 programs all with aspiring young U20 athletes. I’m excited to see the games develop as we get into the later stages of the competition".

Later into the afternoon the Keltics took on British Columbia in the senior women’s division with both teams trading tries throughout the game however, in the end British Columbia falling short, by a score of 15-17. Nova Scotia has a rest day today after winning both their games in the last two days, while British Columbia will play Quebec. BC now have a record of 1-1 in the senior women’s division. On the field over from the senior women’s game was a match form the U20 women’s division between British Columbia and the wolf pack. Ending with a final score of 12-49 in favor of the wolf pack, they will walk away with yet another bonus point win. Both teams have a rest day today.

To end the day we had the second U19 men’s game between the Atlantic rock and the Prairie blizzard. The prairie blizzard who lost their first and only game this tournament got off to another slow start in this game, one that they could never make up the deficit from. In the end The Rock were able to take control of the game and secure a 64-6 victory. The Rock has an impressive 10 different try scorers from just two games.
Tomorrow’s fixtures only have two senior women’s fixtures when the Wolf pack take on Ontario at 1pm local and BC take on Quebec at 3pm local time. Make sure you tune into the live stream.
