Logan Martin-Feek
Rugby 15s Senior Women, Rugby 15s U20 Women, Rugby 15s U19 Men

Day 2 of the Canadian Rugby Championship in Saskatoon, SK got underway with two classic games of the two Canadian coasts

Looking for ascendency of the west coast in the U19 men’s division we saw the Wolfpack and British Columbia take part in a great clash. As the game ticked along, British Columbia were able to overcome the Wolfpack’s defensive efforts and win by a score of 39- 10. At the same time on the next field over we had the battle of the Atlantic with the Nova Scotia Keltics taking on Quebec in the U20 women’s division. The game showcased brilliant pieces of rugby including another brace of tries from Emilie Merilainen, bringing her to four tries across two games for the Keltics. The Keltics overcame Quebec by a score of 22-12. The Keltics will have a well-earned rest tomorrow, and Quebec will take on Ontario at 2pm local time.

Later in the afternoon we had the second fixture of the senior womens Canadian Rugby Championship with Quebec taking on the Ontario Blues. The game was played with great attacking rugby from both of the teams. Both teams showed very well for their first game of the tournament, and we are excited to see what they bring for the rest of the Championship. Ontario were defeated by Quebec 22-36. Also played this afternoon was a U19 men’s match between the Praire Blizzard and Ontario. Ontario, usual powerhouses of the championship had a strong performance which proved too much for the Praire Blizzard, winning 58-0. After day 2 the U19 mens division’s standings are looking extremely tight, with everygame at the utmost importance for all the teams.

With the last match of the day we watched the another fantastic Senior women’s game, where the east coast Keltics took on the Prairie Wolf pack. Strong running and impressive skills from both teams highlighted the game. With tries from Janna Slevinsky pushing the score to 24-15. The Wolf pack will get the day off tomorrow after two games in two days. The Keltics will play the British Columbia in a cross-Canada match up for the senior women.

Tomorrow in the U19 division we have the Rock taking on the Prairie Blizzard and Quebec competing against Alberta. In the Womens U20 championship we see the neighbors facing off, with Quebec and Ontario playing at 2pm local time and British Columbia playing the Wolf pack at 4 pm.

Day Two results:

U19 Men – British Columbia 39-10 Alberta
U19 Men – Ontario 58-0 Prairie Blizzard
