Canada U20 Selection Camp starts Wednesday on Vancouver Island

The training camp roster includes many members of the team that defeated USA in their two-game qualifying series in Texas, along with fresh faces who impressed selectors at last month’s Canadian Rugby Championship in Regina, Saskatchewan.
 
With only 14 days until the team’s opening game against Portugal, it’s important for Canada to hit the ground running. Canada will take a roster of 26 athletes to the eight-team tournament, therefore competition for spots will be fierce.
 
Therefore, this Sunday at Westhills Stadium in Langford, BC there will be a Canada U20 vs. British Columbia U23 selection game at 3pm PT. The game will be open to the public and free of charge.
 
“The game will be a good hit out for the squad after we assemble on Wednesday for the first time since the qualifier vs USA in Texas,” said Jeff Williams, Canada Head Coach.  
 
“We will select two rosters to play a half each, while the remaining players will get a half with the BC side. It’s important for selectors to see every player in camp and crucial for our athletes to play high-level rugby before opening the tournament against Portugal later this month,” added Williams.
 
Canada’s final travelling roster will be announced on Monday, August 20thbefore departing for Europe on August 23rd.
 
“Following several coach development meetings in Saskatchewan, a number of provincial coaches have taken up the invitation to be a part of our World Trophy preparations on Vancouver Island,” said Williams.
 
“This is hugely important for Canadian Rugby to help support coach development as well as to develop greater cohesion and alignment in the player development process and pathway,” he added.
 
Sunday's game in Langford will not be streamed live.
