LANGFORD, BC – Excitement is building with less than 10 days until Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team kicks off their first test match of 2018 against England in Doncaster.

Canada will be embarking on a gruelling November tour, which sees the 31-athlete roster play four matches in 10 days in four different cities across the United Kingdom.

Despite not playing a single international match so far, it’s been a busy year for Canada’s program with East & West Camps, the U20 Tri-Nations Cup tournament, Canadian Rugby Championships, USPORTS National Championships and domestic club competitions.

Canada’s Women’s Rugby XV Team is the only non-centralized senior program, with athletes and staff working together across the country to continue developing for test windows and the next Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2021 in either Australia or New Zealand.

In 2014 the Monty Heald Fund, supported by the Canadian Rugby Foundation, was created to help fund Canada’s Women’s Rugby Program to continue fostering success for our national team. Since its launch in 2017, not a single player has been asked to reach into their pocket to offset team expenses; Instead, their energy can be put into training to represent the maple leaf.

Former Canada Women’s Captain and member of the Canadian Rugby Hall of Fame, Steph White, who also has a daughter, Sophie, on the national team, helped create the fund.

"The Monty Heald Fund is contributing to this tour and to the National Women's XV team to ensure a robust competition schedule over the next three years building to the 2021 Women's Rugby World Cup," said White.

International tours incur a significant cost and Rugby Canada is encouraging the Canadian Rugby community to dig into their pockets to help support our women’s national team.

“Our  national women's XVs program needs your help now to stay competitive for the future,  please donate to the fund where 100% of your donation goes directly to the team," added White.
