USA 29

Game recap:

USA started the better of the two sides in windy Sacramento and were rewarded when scrumhalf, Nate Augspurger broke down the blindside to score the first try of the game in the right corner of the field. Will Magie converted the difficult kick as USA took a 7-0 lead.

Ten minutes later USA doubled their lead when left winger, Ryan Matyas beat a couple of Canadian defenders to dot down his first of two tries under the poles. 14-0 to the hosts.

Canada fought back and gained control of the game. Long spells of possession was finally rewarded when Pat Parfrey got on the end of a neat pass from DTH van der Merwe to score in the corner. Brock Staller converted. 14-7 to USA.

A penalty three minutes into the second half gave Canada some hope but it would unfortunately be their final points of the game as USA added another two tries through Hanco Germishuys and Ryan Matyas to dash any hopes of a first victory in three years against the neighbours.

The full time score at Papa Murphy's Park in Sacramento, 29-10 in favour of the home team.
