BC Place is proud to welcome the world back to Vancouver for the 2018 HSBC Canada Sevens, part of the World Rugby Sevens Series.

The HSBC Canada Sevens gets underway this Saturday, March 10th, and runs through to Sunday evening, March 11th. Gates open at 8:30am, and matches kickoff at 9:30am each day.

In its third year in Vancouver, the HSBC Canada Sevens continues to raise the bar. BC Place is anticipating a crowd of over 76,000 over the two-day tournament – a new record for the highest attended rugby event in Canada!

Key Numbers for the upcoming 2018 HSBC Canada Sevens

  • 16 national teams will compete in a total of 45 matches over the 2-day event at BC Place.
  • Over 76,000: anticipated attendance for the event; a new record for all rugby events in Canada!
  • $3 Million in Food and Beverages served!
  • EMPLOYMENT: 1,800 staff will be working in Food and Beverage service, Hosting, Security, First Aid and Operations for both days of the event at BC Place.
  • ECONOMIC IMPACT: In 2017, the spending of out of town spectators at the HSBC Canada Sevens, in combination with the expenditures made by the organizers in hosting the event, supported an estimated $24.5 million in economic activity in BC. The impact of 2018 HSBC Canada Sevens at BC Place is expected to be even bigger!
  • GLOBAL DESTINATION: Visitors traveling to Vancouver from more than 18 countries, including England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, Hungary, South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the United States.
  • WORLDWIDE AUDIENCE: A global audience for the 10 stops on the Series of 600,000 in venue spectators, 900 million in broadcast, and 5 million in digital broadcast for a total of 4,500 hours of coverage, reaching 149 countries and 390 Million homes world-wide.
  • FOUR MORE YEARS: The HSBC Canada Sevens is in its third year of an initial four-year hosting agreement. Rugby Canada has announced that they will be bidding once again for the rights to host the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, from 2020 through to 2023.
