Roster set for Hong Kong and Singapore

Rugby 7s Senior Men

LANGFORD, BC – Canada men’s sevens team head coach Damian McGrath has announced his 13-man travelling roster for the next two legs of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Vancouver’s Harry Jones will once again take over the captaincy duties from Nathan Hirayama, while Victoria’s Connor Braid will look to continue his excellent form this season after an impressive showing in Las Vegas and Vancouver. The 28-year-old sits atop the DHL Performance Tracker with 40 tackles, 18 breaks, 20 offloads and 148 carries for a total of 226 points so far this season.

McGrath will be without the services of Lucas Hammond, Cole Davis, Pat Kay and Adam Zaruba due to various injuries, however flyer Justin Douglas – who missed Las Vegas and Vancouver due to a concussion – returns to bolster the roster. Douglas, along with Mike Fuailefau, will hit the 50th tournament milestone in Singapore as they are both currently on 48 tournaments played in their careers.

Canada currently sits in 12th place through six stops on the series, with only four remaining in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic qualifying season. In Hong Kong, Canada has been drawn into pool B alongside HSBC Canada Sevens runner-up France, Argentina and Portugal.

Mississauga, Ontario’s David Richard could make his debut for Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team. The 18-year-old impressed for the Maple Leafs development squad earlier this year in South America and has been a part of Canada’s centralized training group since 2018.

Canada has always enjoyed tremendous support in Hong Kong, both in the stadium and through activities in the week leading up to competition. The Canadian Rugby 7s Fund will once again be hosting their annual luncheon in support of Canada’s athletes on April 4th at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. As always, every minute of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series can be streamed live via www.cbcsports.ca.
