Canada U20 team announced to play in game for fifth place at World Trophy

Canada U20 will play Kenya U20 on Sunday July 21 in São José dos Campos, Brazil. Canada were third in their pool having beatenHong Kong, lost a very tight game to Tonga because of missed kicks, and lost to finalists Portugal.

As a result Canada will play third place in the other pool, Kenya, for fifth place in the tournament.

Japan will play Portugal for promotion to World U20 Championships, Tonga will play Uruguay for third place, and hosts Brazil will play Hong Kong for seventh place. Portugal have been consistently good for the past 3 years, having finished second in 2017, third in 2018 and are in the final again in 2019.

Kenya beat Brazil, played very well against Japan and lost to Uruguay. They have big Fijian- like forwards and fast backs. Canada have played well except for the last 15 minutes against Portugal. The offense has scored 124 points in the 3 games but the defense has been a concern, as it leaked 101 points.

The changes to the team that beat Hong Kong are Josh Tweed for Stefan Zuliani at loose head prop, Michael McCarthy for David Carson at hooker, and Will Matthews for Mason Flesch at open side flanker.
