Jones names his team to face New Zealand in game two of the Rugby World Cup 2019
OITA, JAPAN (September 30, 2019) - Head coach Kingsley Jones has named his 23-man squad that will take on defending RWC champion All Blacks, this Tuesday, October 2nd.
Canada brought in two injury replacements as a result from last Thursday's match against Italy and will see the addition of veteran players Evan Olmstead, Conor Trainor, Taylor Paris, and Phil Mack back in the game day 23.
“We welcome back Evan Olmstead back in the second row, he brings a lot of experience for us," said Jones. "In the centres, some changes there due to injuries of course but Conor Trainor—very experienced, very good player-- gets his opportunity at outside centre. He scored two tries against New Zealand back in 2011 so he’s really excited to go."
Canada are coming off a loss against Italy in their first game of the tournament but are excited at the opportunity ahead to test themselves against the three-time RWC champions.
“We have a tremendous amount of respect for New Zealand," said Jones. "We can’t wait to fire against them and see how we come out in comparison to some of the best players in the world. We have to be tight with our game.
We don’t want to be too loose but we also want to go in and have a crack. We’ve got some tries in us so we’re not afraid to have a go but of course we’ve got to play in the right areas," added Jones.
We believe we’ve got a game that can cause New Zealand some concern.”
