LANGFORD, BC (November 5, 2019) – Head coach Sandro Fiorino has named his squad that will travel down to Chula Vista, California for a two-game series against the USA Women’s Eagles on November 20th and 24th, 2019.

Canada last faced rivals USA in the closing match of the Women’s Super Series this past July where the Eagles claimed their first victory against Canada since 2015.

“There’s some really solid experience in this group along with promising young talent coming in from the Under-20, USports, and sevens programs,” said Fiorino. “Being two years out from the Rugby World Cup, it’s critical that we use tests like these to build our depth and get the young players especially, the experience they need to stay competitive on the international stage.”

The Super Series saw two players earn their first caps for Canada, Marie-Pier Fauteux and Sophie De Goede, with de Goede going on to rack up 24 points throughout the series. This time around four more up-and-coming players (Mikeila Nelson, Temi Ogunjimi, Madison Grant, and Shoshanah Seumanutafa) could follow suit and earn their first caps.

Following the USports National Rugby Championship, eight All-Canadians will help fill out the roster, including USports Rugby Player of the Year Fabiola Forteza. Joining in from their overseas clubs, Saracen’s Mackenzie Carson and Loughborough Lightning’s DeLeaka Menin will add their talents to the forward pack.

“The Can-Am series has turned into a great rivalry over the years and we’re really looking forward to this competition,” added Fiorino. “Working with USA Rugby to hold meaningful tests like these allows us to push each other and raise the level of competition as we build to the World Cup.”

The two-game series will close out 2019 for the women’s squad as they continue their build to the 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. Fans can watch both games LIVE with a FloRugby subscription on florugby.com.
