February 24, 2020, LANGFORD, BC - Canada Sevens organizers and Rugby Canada announced today that tickets for the 2020 HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens tournament will go on-sale on Friday, February 28th. The event will be played for the sixth consecutive year at Westhills Stadium in Langford, BC on May 2-3.

Tickets to the 2020 HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens go on sale at 10:00am on February 28th.  Ticket prices range from as low as $40.00 for two-day General Admission group tournament passes, to $99.00 for two days of Premium seating.  Full details of ticket pricing and categories can be found by visiting www.canadasevens.com.  Single-day tickets will be released in April.

The 2020 HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens is the sixth stop of the expanded eight-tournament series that culminates in Hong Kong this year where both the men’s and women’s series’ will wrap on October 16-18th.  2020 will mark the sixth consecutive year that Langford, BC and Westhills Stadium has served as host to the Canadian stop on the global tour. The tournament, in partnership with the City of Langford, has become a community favourite that regularly draws over 6,000 sports enthusiasts and rugby fans to Westhills Stadium on an annual basis.

“The HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens has been a great success story as one of only two ‘stand-alone’ women’s events on the Series,” said Laine Walden, Director, Canada Sevens. “We are hugely appreciative of the City of Langford, Premier Partner The Butchart Gardens, the Government of Canada, the Province of B.C., and the Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission – their continued support has made this tournament a fixture on the Canadian sport calendar.”  Walden added, “I encourage all sport and rugby fans to get your tickets early – this is your last chance to cheer on our Canadian Women’s 7s team on home soil prior to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo!”

Canada finished third on the 2018-2019 Series, with New Zealand capturing the title and the USA in second.  The Canadians captured the gold medal and tournament title in Kitakyushu, while medaling in 4 of the 6 Series stops overall. On the current 2019 -2020 Series, the team has medaled in 4 of the first 5 events, including three silver medals, to sit tied with Australia for second place in the Series standings behind New Zealand.

“We are always excited to return to our home at Westhills Stadium and play in front of a hometown crowd,” said John Tait, Canadian Head Coach. “We are coming off silver medal performances in both Hamilton and Sydney, and are hoping playing in Canada will help us continue to improve and grow as we strive for a tournament title.”

An exciting addition to the 2020 event sees Rugby Canada partnering with BC Rugby, who are holding the BC Rugby Club Finals at Westshore RFC on May 2nd. “In and outs” will be permitted at both venues, and a Saturday ticket to the HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens will provide access to both locations. There will be a free shuttle service operating between Westshore and Westhills Stadium on Saturday so that fans will be able to attend both events.

“We saw this as a great opportunity to partner with Rugby Canada to make this a huge weekend of Club and International rugby in the City of Langford,” stated BC Rugby CEO, Annabel Kehoe. “We are hopeful BC Rugby members and fans are able to cheer on their home sides at the Club Finals, but also take the opportunity to support our Women’s National Sevens team as they compete on the world stage.”
