Hundreds of kids attend HSBC Rookie Rugby Jamboree Presented by Honda and meet Canadian Rugby stars.

Rugby Canada, HSBC, Honda and BC Rugby welcomed nearly 500 children aged 5-12 to Andy Livingstone Park in Vancouver for the HSBC Rookie Rugby Jamboree Presented by Honda on Sunday, March 1. The children came from rugby clubs all across the Lower Mainland to participate in the skills session, which aimed at engaging kids in a fun and interactive way. Those present had the opportunity to mingle with current National Team Athletes, like Canadian Women’s Sevens team Captain and Sevens Series all-time leading points-scorer Ghislaine Landry. As an added bonus, the children participated in a raffle ticket draw to win tickets to this weekend’s HSBC Canada Sevens tournament. The annual Jamboree kicks-off Canada Sevens week and is intended to highlight the grassroots nature of Canada’s Rugby Program.

Joining Landry at the Jamboree was Canada Women’s Sevens teammate Kayla Moleschi, as well as Canada Men’s Sevens players Adam Zaruba and Cole Davis and Women’s 15s player Gillian Boag. Also in attendance was Pacific Pride Head Coach and Canadian rugby Jamie Cudmore.

Twenty lucky children went home with tickets to the final day of HSBC Canada Sevens. In addition, two more children received the opportunity of a lifetime, being selected to serve as the HSBC official ball carriers during the medal matches at this weekend’s tournament.

The jamboree kicked off a week full of celebrations ahead of this weekend’s HSBC Canada Sevens tournament at BC Place on March 7-8, which also includes local school visits by the 16 international Men’s Sevens teams, a special appearance at the Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon and numerous parties throughout the city.
