DHL TRY MAKER AWARDED TO ANDY FRASER OF THE KAMLOOPS RUGBY CLUB

Rugby Canada and DHL Express are proud to announce that Andy Fraser from the Kamloops Rugby Club has been named as the DHL Try Maker from the 2020 HSBC Canada Sevens in Vancouver.

DHL Try Makers are those individuals working behind the scenes making a positive impact within their local rugby clubs and communities.  From the coaches who give up their personal time to deliver training sessions, to the volunteer who washes the local rugby club jerseys every weekend, and the groundsman who has maintained the pitches for as long as he can remember…they all play their part in delivering a positive impact at grassroots rugby clubs.

Andy Fraser has been a member of the Kamloops Rugby Club (KRC) for about 40 years and is an exemplary representative of the Canadian rugby community.  Beginning as an 18-year-old player Fraser has gone on to become a leader at the club and a staple in the KRC family.  He was a lead figure in assembling a building committee to develop funding and designs for a new clubhouse facility for KRC. 

“I guess you’d call me the secretary and the guy who does stuff that nobody else wants to do,” said Fraser.

Fraser was nominated by Erin Jensen from KRC.  “Our motto at this club is ‘One in, all in’ and Andy truly embodies that.  He started our Mini Rugby Program.  We have kids now today that start with us at the age of three,” said Jensen.

Rugby truly is a family affair for Fraser.  His wife, Lu, has long been a familiar face at the KRC and his daughter, Francesca, is a player on the KRC women’s team.

KRC President, Brian Mackinnon said, “His family’s a part of our club too and that’s a huge part of our culture, the family side of it.”
