April 9, 2021 (Dubai, UAE) – The second weekend of the Emirates Invitational 7s concluded on Friday with Canada’s Men’s and Women’s Sevens Teams advancing to the Cup Finals and finishing in 2nd place. Hosted in Dubai, the Emirates Invitational 7s was an important high-performance preparation event in advance of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Similar to the first weekend of the Emirates Invitational 7s, Canada’s women went undefeated on Day 1 defeating Kenya, Japan and USA. On Day 2, the women’s team dropped their first game to France then rallied for a massive win over Brazil. They would then lose a tightly contested match versus France in the final.
The Canadian men won two of three games on Day 1. They defeated Spain in their opener, lost to Kenya in their second match, and closed the day with a win over Uganda. Day 2 started very well for the men’s team, with wins over Japan and France that advanced them to the Cup Final where they were defeated by Argentina.
