LANGFORD, B.C. (August 17, 2021) - Rugby Canada is excited to announce four key fixtures beginning in November that will see Canada’s National Senior Women’s 15s face the USA, Wales and world No. 1 England as they continue preparations for the rescheduled Rugby World Cup in October 2022.
Canada’s Women’s 15s squad is in the midst of their week-long "Road to the Rugby World Cup" selection camp in Halifax. The camp includes evaluations, skills and tactical training, as well as strength and conditioning sessions. The camp culminates with a “Red vs. Black” Match, presented by DHL, on Friday, August 20 at Wanderers Grounds. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
Highlighting the women’s upcoming fixtures is their Nov. 13 match-up versus England. The contest will be an important test for Canada to gauge their level against the world’s very best heading into next year’s World Cup.
Of note, over 18 current NSW15 team members have committed to participating in leagues overseas for the upcoming season, including English Premiership Clubs Saracens, Exeter Chiefs, Loughborough Lightning, Worechester and French Division 1 clubs: Le stade bordelais and Lons Rugby Féminin Béarn Pyrénées. Ranked third in World Rugby’s rankings, Canada were regular visitors to England prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two teams contested consecutive games across a three-match series in 2017. They last met on English soil at Doncaster Knights’ Castle Park in a well-contested 27-19 win for the Red Roses in November 2018.
