
Rugby Canada Adds New Full-Time Women and Girls Rugby Project Coordinator
The new Women and Girls Rugby Project Coordinator will aim to develop girls’ rugby through the delivery of a new girls’ rugby program in schools, clubs, and the community.
May 27, 2022 (Langford, BC) – Rugby Canada is pleased to introduce a new full-time position to the staff, a role that will focus specifically on the on the development of women and girls’ rugby from coast to coast.
The Women and Girls Rugby Project Coordinator will work in partnership with all ten Provincial Unions to help support the delivery of rugby, and the new girls’ rugby program specifically, in schools, clubs, and community organizations, as well as at national events, to help further the growth of girl’s rugby in Canada.
Steph Veal, who recently moved to Chilliwack, BC and originally from Manchester, England, was the successful candidate for the position. Working within the Rugby Development department, this role is in place to build resources for the new girls’ rugby program that will be implemented across the country by the national Rugby Development Officer network and local club leaders.
“We are fortunate to introduce this position to the rugby community as it will help to extend the great work already happening at rugby clubs and extend the reach into schools and communities across Canada,” said Ryan Jones, Rugby Development Manager for Rugby Canada. “Steph brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her time working in women and girls' rugby in England.”
Veal joins the Rugby Canada staff with over 10 years of experience in rugby development, tutoring and coaching. Her strong background in delivering and coordinating girls’ rugby is complimented by her experience in program development and event management. She is also a World Rugby level 3 coach and has completed the World Rugby Educator Training, NCCP Core Training and Safe Sport Training.
“The opportunity to get to develop a new program for girls across Canada is very exciting and will only help the great work already happening across the country,” commented Veal. “I hope that within this new role I allow girls, who might not of normally picked our sport, to find themselves flourishing in rugby.”
