Canada’s Men’s U18s were beaten 38-10 by the USA in their second match of the Corendon Summer Tour.

Canada’s Men’s U18s battled well but were beaten 38-10 by the USA in their second match of the Corendon Summer Tour on Wednesday.

Having overcome Belgium 26-20 in their opening game, the Canadians went into this encounter with the Americans, who themselves had won against the host nation Netherlands 31-23, with plenty of confidence.

Played at the National Rugby Stadium in Amsterdam in sunny, 25-degree conditions, it was the USA who took the lead with back-to-back tries in the tenth and 16th minutes respectively.

Canada responded by getting points on the board via a Stephen Webb penalty conversion to make it 12-3, but the USA scored another try before half time to ensure they went into the break with a 19-3 advantage.

In the second half, the USA tightened their grip on the match with two more tries within the opening 17 minutes, before Lenny Bonduau scored Canada’s first try of the match. Alex Gamage hit the successful conversion to make the score 33-10.

The USA rounded off the match with another try 11 minutes from time to ensure the game finished 38-10 in their favour. Up next for Canada’s U18s is their third and final match of the tournament, against the Netherlands on Saturday, July 16.

Following the game, Canada’s Men’s U18s Head Coach Cory Hector said: “We came out slow against a strong USA team, got behind early and couldn’t catch up. They exposed a few areas in our game that we will work on during our off days and come back stronger for it. The boys will learn a valuable lesson from this game.”
