Forty players from Eastern Canada will gather in Ottawa this July for Canada’s Women’s U18 East camp, held in conjunction with the 2023 World Rugby Pacific Four Series.

The program will train in Ottawa throughout the week of July 10 to 15, scrimmaging with the University of Ottawa and playing an intersquad scrimmage on the final day of camp at Twin Elm Rugby Park. In addition, players will attend Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team’s match against Australia at TD Place on July 14, as well as Canada’s Women’s U20 Rugby Team’s match against Wales at Twin Elm Rugby Park on July 13.

“The biggest highlight will be getting these strong women’s 15s players together in a Rugby Canada age-grade environment for the first time since early 2020,” said Jenn Russell, Women’s U18 East Head Coach. “Another camp highlight will be that our U18 players will be surrounded, inspired, and in some cases working with U20 and senior national team players and coaches. Having the women’s U18 East and U20 groups gathered together at the same time and in the same place as the Pacific Four Series is going to be a memorable and valuable opportunity for collaboration and rugby across the board.”

Russell is joined on the coaching staff by Emma DeLory (Saint Mary’s University/Rugby Nova Scotia), Curtis Lauzon (Rugby New Brunswick), Jeremy Cairnie (Seneca College), Sean Dunleavy (Queen’s University), and Team Manager Manon Bordeleau.

Selections for the Women’s U18 East camp were led by provincial unions. The Atlantic provinces kicked off the talent identification cycle with a camp in December 2022, followed by camps led by Rugby Ontario and Rugby Québec in Kingston, Markham and Montreal. The Women’s U18 East coaching staff also attended the OFSAA and Nova Scotia high school girls rugby championships.

Canada’s Women’s U18 West program will gather in British Columbia in August, with further details to be announced.
