Rugby Canada has announced the training venues to be used by Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, as well as national women’s age grade teams, in and around Ottawa this July in preparation for the 2023 Pacific Four Series matches at TD Place on July 8 and 14.
“Through collaboration with the cities of Ottawa and Perth, as well as local clubs and schools, we have secured world-class training venues for the Pacific Four Series this summer,” said Jamie Levchuk, Rugby Canada Managing Director, Operations and Game Development. “Ottawa has no shortage of quality sport facilities, and we look forward to hosting senior and age grade national teams at clubs and schools around the Ottawa region as they prepare for the big stage at TD Place.”
Lanark Highlanders Rugby Football Club (Perth, Ontario): Before arriving in Ottawa, Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team will hold a camp at Oakfield Rugby Park in Perth, one hour southwest of Ottawa. Built through the efforts of members of the Lanark Highlanders RFC, Oakfield Rugby Park is one of Ontario’s newest rugby parks. The 20-acre park has four rugby pitches and a 140-seat clubhouse that includes a 2,000-square-foot gym.
Rowan’s Pitch at Barrhaven Scottish Rugby Football Club: Located within Ken Ross Park is Rowan’s Pitch, the home of the Barrhaven Scottish Rugby Football Club. The pitch is named after Rowan Stringer, who inspired the Rowan’s Law legislation that mandates annual concussion education for athletes, parents, coaches and officials in Ontario.
Twin Elm Rugby Park: Located in the south end of Ottawa and jointly owned by the Bytown Blues, the Ottawa Beavers/Banshees, the Ottawa Osprey and the Ottawa Irish Rugby Football clubs, Twin Elm Rugby Park is Eastern Ontario’s original rugby facility. With five rugby pitches, the front pitch of international calibre, Twin Elm Rugby Park has previously hosted international-level matches, and is home to some historic moments in Canadian rugby history. Twin Elm Rugby Park will also be used for age grade training and matches.
Ashbury College: This independent day and boarding school for grades 4 through 12, with quality field facilities and high school rugby teams, is located in the Rockcliffe Park neighbourhood of Ottawa.
TD Place: The venue for all four Pacific Four Series matches, as well as a U20 women’s match-up between Canada and the USA, the outdoor stadium at TD Place is located at Lansdowne Park and is the home of the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks and the CPL’s Atlético Ottawa.
University of Ottawa: Along with Twin Elm Rugby Park, age grade training will take place at the University of Ottawa’s Matt Anthony Field, the home of the Gees Gees rugby teams located steps away from the Rideau Canal and just outside the Minto Sports Complex.
Details on open practices and other community events, as well as other age grade competitions taking place in Ottawa in conjunction with the Pacific Four Series, will be announced shortly.
