Canada's U20 Women’s Rugby Team falls to Wales at Twin Elm Rugby Park in Ottawa

Canada’s U20 Women’s Rugby Team dropped their final match in Ottawa against Wales on July 13 at Twin Elm Rugby Park.

Wales jumped out to an early 12-0 in the first half before starting fullback Lucie Romeo scored Canada’s first try of the match to pull her team back to within seven points. Despite a dominant scrum, lineout and multiple opportunities to score late in the first half, Canada found themselves down 19-5 at halftime.

Wales extended their lead to 39-5 in the second before Sara Grant touched down the Canadian’s second score before time ran out, marking the final score as 39-12 for the Welsh.

“It’s a learning process,” said Canada's U20 Women’s Head Coach Dean Murten. “Overall, the experience has been phenomenal for these players. Rugby Canada has created a great experience for them. This was their first international experience so they will have learned a lot. They have been absolutely tremendous, worked hard and given us all they’ve got. We fell short today, but that is sport. As long as we can go away and fix some of the challenges we’ve got then it’s been successful.”
