Canada’s Alex Tessier nominated for Women’s 15s Player of the Year
In a year highlighted by her 50th international cap and where she helped lead Canada to their historic win over New Zealand, Alex Tessier from Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team has been nominated for World Rugby’s Women’s 15s Player of the Year award.
In a year highlighted by her 50th international cap and where she helped lead Canada to their historic win over New Zealand, Alex Tessier from Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team has been nominated for World Rugby’s Women’s 15s Player of the Year award.
“I have known Alex for a very long time,” said Kevin Rouet, Head Coach of Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team. “She has always been an amazing rugby player and has always had the talent to be one of the best rugby players in the world. She has recently fully committed herself to rugby and now the world gets to see her showcase her talent on the pitch. She is a complete and very smart rugby player. Our staff and players are very proud of her nomination.”
Tessier started all six matches for Canada in 2024 scoring a total of 27 points. In Canada’s second match of the 2024 Pacific Four Series game against Australia, Alex earned her 50th international cap for Canada on their way to a 33-14 victory. In her 51st test she helped her Canadian squad earn their first-ever victory over New Zealand to win the Pacific Four Series title in May, with Alex kicking the ball out on the final play to seal the victory for Canada.
Over the span of her international career, Tessier has a total of 54 caps while scoring a total of 48 points including five tries, one of which came in Canada’s most recent match against England during the 2024 WXV tournament hosted in Vancouver.
Alex is currently playing professionally with the Exter Chiefs of the PWR (Premiership Women’s Rugby) league based in England.
