On Monday February 17, Rugby Canada, in partnership with BC Rugby and the Vancouver Sevens, will be hosting a FREE Rookie Rugby “Bring a Friend” festival for children between the ages of 5 and 14. 

On Monday February 17, Rugby Canada, in partnership with BC Rugby and the Vancouver Sevens, will be hosting a FREE Rookie Rugby “Bring a Friend” festival for children between the ages of 5 and 12. 

Kicking off the 2025 mini’s rugby season in BC, this is an exciting opportunity for new and existing rugby players to participate in a fun, action-packed morning of non-contact rugby. The session will include the regularly scheduled club games, various Rookie Rugby games played in our inflatable field and the opportunity to play alongside current and former players from Canada’s Women’s Sevens Teams, including players who won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics!

Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  
Location: Brockton Oval in Stanley Park - Vancouver, BC V6G 3G1 
What to bring: Athletic clothing, cleats or running shoes and a water bottle. 
Who is invited: Children between the ages of 5 and 14 regardless of rugby experience. Existing players are encouraged to bring a friend.

Rookie Rugby is a program designed to develop kids' rugby programming at rugby clubs, schools, and community organizations. Rugby Canada has prepared a resource specifically to support club coaches, physical educators, and community leaders to introduce the sport to kids in their community. HSBC SVNS Vancouver is a three-day indoor rugby sevens tournament, hosted February 21-23, 2025 at the world-class BC Place Stadium on the traditional lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, that will feature 24 of the world’s top women’s and men’s sevens teams. Vancouver is part of the global HSBC SVNS series. Sevens rugby, a fast-paced and shorter version of traditional rugby with only seven players per side, has built a huge international audience through the success of the HSBC SVNS series (formerly HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series) and its inclusion in the Olympics, which attracts large audiences in markets around the world. The 2025 HSBC SVNS kicked off on November 30, 2024, in Dubai.
