Rugby Canada Launches Mission: Win Rugby World Cup Fundraising Campaign
All donations in March will be matched up to $50,000, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Rugby Canada has officially launched the Mission: Win the Rugby World Cup 2025 fundraising campaign. The goal is to raise $1,000,000 to provide Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team with extra resources to help them make history by winning the 2025 Rugby World Cup.
With their sights set on a groundbreaking achievement this year in England, Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team - currently ranked second in the World Rugby global rankings - will look to make Canadian history by claiming their first-ever Rugby World Cup title this September.
“We are fortunate that Rugby Canada is fully invested in supporting us in our mission to win a World Cup and inspire the growth of rugby in our country,” said Sophie De Goede, Captain of Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team. “That support has only grown over the years to the point that now, unlike many unions, our financial support is on equal footing to the men’s program. The unfortunate part is that the resource pool from which those finances are pulled is much smaller than our competition and our union has been working tirelessly to grow that."
Rugby Canada is already more than 30 per cent of the way to reaching their fundraising goal with generous support of the rugby and Canadian sports communities. Donations can be made online here and individuals with questions about the campaign are encouraged to contact Rugby Canada or visit rugby.ca/donate.
During the month of March, all donations will be matched up to $50,000 by a private donor.
Despite operating on a fraction of the budget compared to some of their top competitors, Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team has achieved remarkable success in recent years with several key accomplishments underscoring their status as contenders at the Rugby World Cup:
Olympic Success: Several players set to play for Canada at the 2025 Rugby World Cup also helped secured a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics as members of Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team
World Rugby Pacific Four Series Victory: Canada claimed the title for the first time in history, cementing their position among the world’s best rugby teams
Historic Win Over New Zealand: For the first time in Rugby Canada History, the women defeated reigning Rugby World Cup champions, the New Zealand Black Ferns.
Player Recognition: Four Canadian players—Sophie De Goede, Laetitia Royer, Alexandria Tessier, and Olivia Apps—were named to the 2024 World Rugby Dream Team
“This team is built on passion, resilience and love for the game,” stated Brittany Kassil, who has earned 43 international caps with Canada. “Every time we step on the field, we’re not just playing for ourselves—we’re representing Canada, the people who have supported us, and the next generation of players. With more support, we can continue to grow, compete at the highest level and put Canadian rugby on the map.”
