Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team has won bronze for the second weekend in a row, once again beating France in the third place play-off to cap off HSBC SVNS Singapore.

Eden Kilgour scored Canada’s lone try in a tough semi-final that ended in a 45-7 win for Australia. Converted by Taylor Perry, this was Kilgour’s first-ever career SVNS series try.

This set up a re-match with France, who Canada had also played in the third place play-off the weekend prior in Hong Kong. Carissa Norsten got the game started for Canada with a try in the opening minute, converted by Breanne Nicholas. Shalaya Valenzuela added to Canada’s score, with another Nicholas conversion, in the third minute to give Canada a 14-0 lead, which they held going into the second half.

Canada took advantage of a yellow card to France, with Fancy Bermudez furthering Canada’s lead in the 12th minute, yet again converted by Nicholas. France scored their only try of the game in the final minute of play, with Canada taking the win and the bronze with a final score of 21-5.

Next for Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team is the final stop of the series, the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles on May 3 to 4. Canada will compete in Pool A against New Zealand, Japan and Great Britain in this winner-takes-all season finale featuring the top eight ranked teams.
