USA defeat Canada in Halifax

Rugby 15s Senior Men

Canada's Men's Rugby Team has dropped their final Test of the summer to USA in a hard-fought battle in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Full-time: Canada 17 - 42 USA

Strong performances from USA's powerful 8th man, Cam Dolan and playmaker, AJ Macginty lead the way for the Eagles twenty-five point victory at the Wanderers Grounds.

The big number eight was in fine form, as he touched down on three occasions to become the second number eight in as many weeks to score a hat-trick against Canada. The first came after a touch of class from AJ Macginty - the flyhalf putting a perfectly waited chip-kick into space and regathering the ball, before offloading to Dolan who finished in the corner. Canada 3 - 5 USA.

Macginty did not have to wait too long for his second assist of the game. A spell of pressure within the Canadian half resulting in space opening up out wide for winger, Nate Augspurger who was reached thanks to an inch-perfect cut-out pass from Macginty and needed no second invitation to cross the line. Canada 3 - 13 USA.

Winger, Augspurger went from scorer to provider early in the second half, capitalizing on an overlap on the blindside to put Dolan away untouched for his second try of the afternoon. AJ Macginty added the extras to give the States a seventeen point lead. Canada 3 - 20 USA.

Canada, however, did not lie down, a well-worked rolling maul from inside the twenty-two fell just short of the line. Evan Olmstead picked up and spun out of the tackle to dot down Canada's first try of the game, to the delight of the sold-out home crowd. Shane O'Leary was successful from out wide to make things interesting with more than twenty minutes to go. Canada 10 - 20 USA.

With a little more than ten minutes to go, Cam Dolan managed to reach over for his third and complete his hat-trick for the Eagles to silence the home support. Possibly taking the game out of reach for the Maple Leafs. Canada 10 - 28 USA

The final ten minutes would not be what head coach, Kingsley Jones was hoping for as the USA managed another two converted tries from captain, Blaine Scully and replacement scrumhalf, Ruben de Haas to put the nail in the coffin. Jeff Hassler managed a late consolation to give the Halifax crowd something to cheer about in the 76th minute but it was a little too late as the Eagles claimed their third win of the summer. Canada 17 - 42 USA.
