“We’re really pleased to have secured our place at the Rugby World Cup Sevens,” commented Hanratty. “It was great to get some game time into the team and to put on such convincing performances this weekend, and we are excited to continue with this cohesion going into Langford. The squad is now brimming with confidence and is looking forward to the prospect of competing in Cape Town, South Africa later this year.”

The Men’s team blazed their way to the top of Pool A after convincing victories over the British Virgin Islands and Trinidad & Tobago on Day 1. They began Day 2 with a 38-14 win over Barbados in the quarter-final before seeing off the challenge of Mexico 41-0 in the semis. Tries from Jarvis Dashkewytch, Lachlan Kratz, Elias Ergas and Thomas Isherwood ensured Canada won the final 29-12 against Jamaica and booked their ticket to South Africa.

“After an intense three-week period in Singapore, Vancouver and now Nassau, we’re delighted to end this leg on a high and to confirm our place in South Africa,” said Senior Men’s Sevens Head Coach Henry Paul. “Now, it’s time for our squad to rest and look ahead to Toulouse and London in May back on the HSBC World Sevens Series.”
