October 5, 2022 (Whangārei, New Zealand) – Canada Senior Women’s 15s player Laura Russell has been ruled out of Rugby World Cup 2021 playing in 2022 through injury.

Russell is tied for third on the all-time Canadian Women’s caps list having represented her country on 53 occasions since debuting against South Africa in 2011, one of only five Canadian women to achieve the significant milestone.

While Russell’s experience will be missed on the field, the squad will benefit from her leadership with Russell remaining in New Zealand as a technical advisor.

Women’s  15s head coach Kevin Rouet said: “It is unfortunate for Laura to miss the World Cup but we’re thankful that she will stay with us for the tournament as a technical advisor.

“Laura is an experienced player and a leader in the squad so her contribution will be valuable to both the team and the staff.”

Pamphinette Buisa has been added to Canada’a World Cup squad, having competed at the Sevens World Cup in September in Cape Town, South Africa.
