In preparation for the final stop of the women’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2023, 16 players will gather in France this weekend for a prolonged training camp ahead of France Sevens, which kicks off on May 12 in Toulouse.

A roster of 12 will be selected from this group next week following a scrimmage with France’s development team.

"Getting the opportunity to work with France’s development squad will provide great learnings for us going into our final World Rugby Sevens Series event. Training is always beneficial, but games is where we get a real test,” said head coach Jack Hanratty. “With a number of athletes continuing their injury recovery at home, this is another brilliant way to continue to build our depth as we go into a very important year for the program.”

An example of the integration and strong collaboration between Rugby Canada’s sevens and fifteens programs, joining the training camp squad are Sophie de Goede, Sabrina Poulin, and Justine Pelletier and Fabiola Forteza. Poulin, Pelletier and Forteza will all join the camp from their professional teams in Europe. Fancy Bermudez returns to the sevens training environment following an impressive debut earlier this year with Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team.

Two Maple Leaf Academy players and RBC Training Ground athletes, Lucie Romeo and Eden Kilgour, will also travel to France.

France Sevens takes place May 12 to 14 at Stade Ernest-Wallon in Toulouse. The France Sevens roster for Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team will also be announced next week, with those players departing for France on May 6.
