Kevin Rouet names roster ahead of Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team’s second match versus England

The roster for Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team’s rematch with England on September 30 has been named by Head Coach Kevin Rouet. 

Following a 50-24 loss to England on September 23 in Exeter, Canada will kick off against the Red Roses once more on Saturday at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET (3:00 p.m. local time). StoneX Stadium in London, the Premier 15s home of the Saracens and Sophie de Goede, McKinley Hunt and Alexandria Ellis, will play host. 

Krissy Scurfield will earn her first cap for Canada on the wing. The former Maple Leaf Academy player and RBC Training Ground athlete debuted for Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team in Dubai in 2021 at the age of 18 and was named to the 2022 Langford Sevens HSBC Dream Team. Since then, she has competed at the Commonwealth Games and Rugby World Cup Sevens, and recently played a significant role in Canada’s Paris 2024 qualification campaign. 

Other changes to Canada’s roster from last week see Olivia DeMerchant, Sara Svoboda and Taylor Perry move into the starting 15.  

“There are a number of improvements we are looking to make and details that we want to refine going into this second match against England,” said Kevin Rouet. “As anticipated, this tour has been a valuable opportunity to prepare for WXV, and the team is looking forward to another good, tough match on Saturday.” 

Following this tour, Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team heads to New Zealand for WXV, where they will face England once again, along with Wales and France. 

Returning this weekend is the NFP Forward & Back Game Changers contest. Fans will have the opportunity to vote virtually for the players (one forward and one back) who they think were changers for Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team against England, with a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card and a signed jersey. Details on how to participate will be announced on Rugby Canada’s social media channels.
