HSBC SVNS Los Angeles under way for Canada’s sevens teams

HSBC SVNS Los Angeles kicked off with a ‘Friday Night Lights’ session, which saw Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team beat Great Britain for the second weekend in a row and Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team take on France.

HSBC SVNS Los Angeles kicked off with a ‘Friday Night Lights’ session, which saw Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team beat Great Britain for the second weekend in a row and Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team take on France.

Krissy Scurfield, who was named to the HSBC Dream Team in Vancouver, opened scoring for Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team in the second minute. Carissa Norsten and Asia Hogan-Rochester scored in the final minutes of the first half to give Canada a 15-0 lead at half-time. Great Britain’s Emma Uren scored her first of two tries early in the second half, but Sabrina Poulin ran the ball end to end and got it to Alysha Corrigan, who increased Canada’s lead further in the twelfth minute. Uren scored again for Britain in extra time, but Canada took the win 20-10.

France, the HSBC SVNS Vancouver bronze medallists, took a 12-0 lead over Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team in the first half of their opening pool play match. Matt Percillier got Canada on the board in the ninth minute, converted by Thomas Isherwood, but tries from Stephen Parez Edo Martin and Antoine Dupont got France the 24-7 win.  

Pool play continues on Saturday, with all matches available live on TSN+. Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team plays Fiji at 9:30am PT/12:30pm ET and Great Britain at 2:00pm PT/5:00pm ET, while Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team plays Spain at 1:10pm PT/4:10pm ET and the United States at 6:08pm PT/9:08pm ET.
