A long sprint down the field by Alex Russell early in the second half gave Canada the lead. Josiah Morra and Ethan Hager added tries to give Canada a 33-14 win.
Canada’s final pool play match was against Great Britain. While Great Britain scored first, a statement try from Berna, converted by Coats, gave Canada a 7-5 lead. Great Britain scored right before half-time to go up 12-7, and furthered their lead to 17-7 early in the second half.
Great Britain’s Ross McCann was assessed a yellow card with two minutes remaining, which Canada made use of immediately with a try from Hager to close the cap to 17-12. Canada continued to push, with a potential try from Berna held up, but Great Britain held on to their lead to win.
