Canada’s U20 Women’s Rugby Team opened the inaugural Transatlantic Quad Series with a 23-10 win over the United States on Sunday in Ystrad Mynach, Wales.

Ria Johnston opened scoring in the sixth minute, receiving a pass from Kayleigh Noel before cutting through the American defence and sprinting down the wing. The United States responded by going on the attack, but Canada’s defence was strong.

The United States got their first points on the board with a penalty kick, but Ava Van Santen extended Canada’s lead to 10-3 in the 36th minute. Noel was involved yet again, with a dummy and an offload to Van Santen.

Adelaide Holmes scored her first of the match in the 52nd minute to put Canada up 15-3. Despite continued disciplined defence from Canada, the United States managed to score and convert their try, bringing the score to 15-10 for Canada in the 64the minute. Holmes scored a second time however, off the set piece, to distance Canada from the United States 20-10.

A penalty kick from Grace Jacklyn in the final minute was the finishing touch, with Canada winning 23-10.
