Canada faced Australia, the eventual tournament champions, in the quarter-finals. Australia opened scoring in the second minute, scoring twice more to lead 19-0 at half-time. Four tries in the second half gave Australia a 39-0 win.
The team’s final game of the tournament was a re-match against Japan. Carissa Norsten opened scoring in the seventh place play-off, her try converted by Asia Hogan-Rochester. Japan tied the game, but two minutes later, Piper Logan retook the lead for Canada.
Japan scored two more times to take a 19-12 lead at half-time however. They further increased their lead to 24-12 in the twelfth minute, but Canada rallied in an effort to try to tie the game, with Savannah Bauder scoring twice—her first and second career SVNS series tries—in the final minutes. Both her tries not converted, Japan took the win 24-22.
"We had seven new debuts on the series and are continuing to solidify our foundations as a team," said Head Coach Jocelyn Barrieau. "We had tremendous growth from day one to day two, narrowing a 35 point loss to a two point loss to Japan. We need to be more proud in our possession and continue solidifying our connections on defence moving into Cape Town this week."
Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team will now travel from Dubai to South Africa for HSBC SVNS Cape Town, the second stop on the 2025 HSBC SVNS series, which takes place December 7 to 8 at the DHL Stadium.
