Canada’s U20 Women’s Rugby Team splits two-game series with Ireland

Canada’s U20 Women’s Rugby Team split a two-game series against Ireland, with the Irish squad winning 32-14 over Canada in the second of two friendlies in Dublin on May 17. This followed Canada’s 26-15 win over Ireland on May 10.

Ireland started strong, scoring first just over 10 minutes into the game to lead 5-0. They added two more, converting the second try, to go up 17-0 at the midway point of the first half.

With about seven minutes remaining in the first half, Kiki Idowu broke past Ireland’s defence and offloaded the ball to Adia Pye, who sprinted down the field to score. Brooke Roddham converted the try.

As the first half came to a close, Pye, Adelaide Holmes and Rachel Cullum worked to move the ball down to Ireland’s try line, with Cullum scoring and Roddham adding another conversion to double Canada’s points.

Ireland led 17-14 at half-time, and added a fourth try 10 minutes into the second half. Canada got close to scoring again, with a scrum at Ireland’s five metre line, but Ireland regained possession on the play. Two more tries for Ireland put the home team up 32-14. Canada finished strong with another scoring opportunity, but was unable to get back on the scoresheet.
